We ship surveillance, tracking and recording equipment to Brisbane and throughout South East Queensland. Equipment is selected by working investigators and supplied with the Queensland legal position set out plainly, because it differs from the southern states in ways that catch people out.

The Queensland position

Queensland is, on paper, one of the more permissive states, and that leads people into trouble because they assume permissive means unregulated.

Recording conversations. Under the Invasion of Privacy Act 1971, a party to a private conversation may generally record it without the consent of the others. If you are in the conversation, you may usually record it.

Conversations you are not part of. Using a listening device to overhear a private conversation you are not a party to remains an offence. The permissive rule above does not extend to planting a device.

Publishing a recording. Regulated separately. A recording that was lawful to make can still be unlawful to distribute.

Cameras. Queensland has historically regulated optical surveillance less comprehensively than the southern states, but that does not make hidden cameras a free for all. Recording a person in a private place, or filming for an indecent purpose, carries criminal liability under the Criminal Code, and workplace and privacy obligations apply on top.

Queensland surveillance law has been under review in recent years. Get current advice before relying on any of this.

What we will not supply for

We do not supply equipment for tracking a vehicle belonging to another person, monitoring another adult’s phone, or recording conversations you are not part of, in Queensland or anywhere else. If that is what the situation calls for, the answer is a Queensland licensed investigator rather than a product.
