New South Wales is one of the stricter states and Penrith buyers are often surprised by it.
Tracking devices. Under section 9 of the Surveillance Devices Act 2007, installing or using a tracking device to work out the location of a vehicle or object without the consent of the person in lawful control of it is an offence. Your own ute, trailer and plant are fine. A vehicle registered to somebody else is not, even if you paid for it.
Cameras. Filming inside premises you own or occupy is generally lawful. Bathrooms and bedrooms other than your own are never lawful. A property you have let to a tenant is their home, and cameras come out.
Recording conversations. New South Wales generally requires the consent of everyone involved, with a narrow exception where a recording is reasonably necessary to protect your lawful interests. This is much narrower than people assume.
