A private investigator Queensland wide is really covering three or four different places at once. The south east corner behaves like one long sprawling city from the Gold Coast up to the Sunshine Coast. The coast north of it is a chain of separate centres, each hundreds of kilometres from the next. Inland is mining country that runs on rosters, and the far north runs on a wet season. Queensland at a glance

Queensland covers about 1.85 million square kilometres and is the most decentralised of the mainland states, which is the single fact that governs everything on this page. The population runs up the coast rather than gathering in one place. The south east corner, from the Gold Coast through Brisbane and Ipswich to the Sunshine Coast, holds most of it, with Toowoomba a hundred and twenty five kilometres west at the top of the Great Dividing Range. North of there the Bruce Highway is the spine, and it is a long one. Hervey Bay and Bundaberg are three to four hours out, Gladstone and Rockhampton six or seven, Mackay around eleven, Townsville thirteen or fourteen, and Cairns close to twenty hours of driving from Brisbane. Much of that is one lane each way, and through the wet season, roughly November to April, sections of it flood and close. North of Rockhampton you are in the tropics, with humidity, cyclone season and afternoon storms that end outdoor work early. Inland, the Capricorn, Warrego and Landsborough highways run out through Emerald, Charleville and Longreach into country where towns sit an hour or more apart and fuel stops need planning. Mount Isa is nearly nineteen hundred kilometres from Brisbane and about nine hundred west of Townsville, which is why almost nobody drives it. Flying is normal here rather than a luxury. Brisbane to Cairns is around two and a half hours in the air against two days on the road, and Townsville, Mackay, Rockhampton and Mount Isa all have regular services.

Brisbane

Brisbane and the south east are where most Queensland matters land, and the city has its own character for this work. The river loops back on itself and limits the crossings, the inner suburbs are hilly with narrow streets and steep driveways, and the built up area runs almost unbroken from Coolangatta to Noosa. Surveillance is the service most affected by the size of this state. In the south east we can have an agent in place quickly. For Townsville, Cairns or Mackay we are usually flying someone in, which means booking a block of days and getting full value from the trip rather than a few hours of it. Heat and light matter too. Cheating Partner Investigations

Cheating partner matters in regional Queensland often involve a roster. If one partner is away seven on and seven off, or a fortnight at a time, the pattern is not evenings out but whole blocks of time, and that cuts both ways. We plan around the swing rather than the week. A bug sweep needs an agent and equipment in the room, which makes it the least travel friendly service we offer. Phone Number Search

A phone number search is identical wherever the phone happens to be. Send us the number and we return the name and home address behind it, usually inside twenty four to forty eight hours. For remote and regional Queensland it is often the most useful thing we can do, because it answers a real question without anybody buying a plane ticket. Locate a Person

Locating a person is record work, so distance is irrelevant to it. We find current addresses for debtors, for documents that need serving, and for people who have lost contact with family. Queensland generates a lot of this because the population moves: south east to the mines, mines to the coast, and a steady flow arriving from New South Wales and Victoria. Spy Products

Spy products post anywhere in Queensland, including the far north and the Gulf, so there is no penalty for living a long way from a city. Outside Brisbane

Regional Queensland is not one place and we do not treat it as one. The Gold Coast and the Sunshine Coast are effectively part of the metro area and need no special arrangement. Toowoomba is a short run west up the range. Beyond that the coast splits into distinct centres: Bundaberg, Hervey Bay, Gladstone, Rockhampton, Mackay, Townsville and Cairns, each with its own economy and its own airport, and each far enough from the next that a job in one does not usefully combine with a job in another.

For anything north of Rockhampton, assume flights and assume about a week of lead time. We would rather send an agent for three or four days with a clear list than make a token visit. Mining towns add another layer. Site access is controlled, rosters dictate when people are actually home, and accommodation in places like Moranbah or Mount Isa can be tight and expensive when a shutdown is on.

The wet season is real. Between November and April, roads north of Mackay flood, flights get cancelled at short notice, and outdoor work stops for hours at a time. We plan around it and will tell you if your timing is poor. Meanwhile background checks, phone number searches and locate work run for regional clients constantly, because none of the above applies to them.

Frequently asked questions

Do you cover all of Queensland or just Brisbane?

We cover the state. Brisbane and the south east are the busiest part of it, and the remote services, meaning background checks, phone number searches and locating a person, run everywhere at the same speed. On ground work in north Queensland, central Queensland or the north west is arranged as a trip, usually with flights and about a week of notice.

How much notice do you need for surveillance in Cairns or Townsville?

About a week is ideal. That gives us time to book flights and a vehicle and to put an agent in place the day before, rather than starting straight off a plane. Shorter notice is sometimes possible. If the subject works a roster we will often work backwards from their swing dates instead, since those are known well in advance.

Does the wet season affect investigation work in Queensland?

It does, north of about Rockhampton. From November to April heavy rain closes sections of the Bruce Highway, flights into the far north are cancelled at short notice, and outdoor observation becomes impractical for hours at a stretch. We still work through it, but we will say honestly if waiting a few weeks would get you a better result for the same money.

My partner works FIFO from a Queensland mine site. What can you actually do?

We cannot get onto a controlled mine site and will not pretend otherwise. What we can cover is everything accessible: airport departures and arrivals, town accommodation, and what happens at home during the swing. Rosters help us, because the dates are fixed well ahead, so we can plan a short targeted job instead of an open ended one.

Can you do anything for Queensland clients without travelling here?

Yes, and it is often the fastest route to an answer.
