Past them the Central West flattens through Dubbo, and the plains open out through Nyngan and Cobar toward Broken Hill, more than eleven hundred kilometres from Sydney, closer to Adelaide and running on South Australian time. To the south west the Hume carries traffic to Albury on the Murray, and the Riverina around Wagga Wagga and Griffith is flat irrigation country, hot and dry through summer. Regional airports at Wagga, Albury, Dubbo, Tamworth, Coffs Harbour and Port Macquarie take daily flights, and for some jobs an hour in the air beats nine on the road.

Outside Sydney

Newcastle and the Hunter, the Central Coast and Wollongong sit close enough that we treat them as extended metro work, so a job in Charlestown, Erina or Figtree can usually be covered the same week you ask. The Blue Mountains up the Great Western Highway are similar, with the caveat that a follow through Leura and Katoomba on a foggy morning is slower than the map suggests.

Beyond the range, plan on lead time. Bathurst and Orange are roughly three hours from us, Dubbo and Tamworth closer to five, Wagga Wagga and Albury five to seven down the Hume, and Coffs Harbour or Byron Bay a long day north on the Pacific Highway. For anything past the tablelands we prefer to send an agent for a block of days and finish the whole matter rather than make repeat trips.

All of it. Sydney and the surrounding metro area make up the bulk of what we do, but we travel through regional New South Wales regularly, and the remote services run statewide with no travel at all. How far ahead do I need to book surveillance in regional New South Wales?

Two to three days is usually enough for the Hunter, the Central Coast, the Illawarra or the Blue Mountains. For the Central West, New England, the Riverina or the North Coast, give us the better part of a week if you can. That lets us put an agent in the area the night before, so the job starts when the subject does rather than after a long drive.

Is it more expensive to hire an investigator outside Sydney?

On ground jobs do cost more outside the metro area, because someone has to get there and stay there, and we would rather say that plainly than surprise you at the end.
